Jennifer Kimball is a business and bankruptcy litigation attorney who practices primarily in the areas of creditors’ rights, debtor/creditor litigation and complex business disputes. She represents local and regional businesses in state and federal court in contract litigation, UCC trade cases, commercial landlord, construction, and real estate disputes, and mechanics lien and commercial foreclosure actions. Ms. Kimball has a wealth of experience handling different types of business fraud cases including real estate fraud, investment fraud, accounting and fiduciary fraud and fraudulent transfer actions, and she also represents corporations, limited liability companies and their owners and investors in corporate ownership disputes, surety and guaranty cases and business dissolution actions.
Ms. Kimball’s creditor and bankruptcy litigation practice involves counseling and representing businesses that are navigating the bankruptcy of a key customer, supplier, or other third party. She advocates for secured and unsecured creditors in contested matters in Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 bankruptcies, and she has prosecuted and defended numerous adversary proceedings including discharge and discharge ability actions and preference defense. Outside of bankruptcy court, Ms. Kimball is experienced in specialized creditor actions including enforcement of judgments and replevin and detinue cases.
Ms. Kimball graduated with High Honors from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she received five CALI awards and was selected for the Order of the Coif. Throughout law school, Ms. Kimball was a member of the prestigious Chicago-Kent Honors Scholar program that included a full-tuition scholarship and stipend as well as participation in honors classes and projects. She served as the Co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of International and Comparative Law in her final year of law school. Ms. Kimball holds a bachelors degree in finance and, prior to obtaining her J.D., she spent seven years working for Illinois corporations in project management, purchasing and merchandising.
Ms. Kimball is licensed to practice in the State of Illinois, in the District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois and the District of Minnesota and in the Bankruptcy Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois. She is a current member of the Chicago Bar Association, the Northwest Suburban Bar Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute.
